The Danish Transport Authority and Skånetrafiken have announced that Kystbanen A/S will operate the railway passenger services on the railway stretches in the Oresund Region from 2008/2009 to 2015.
Kystbanen A/S (owned by DSB and First Group) will operate the railway passenger services on the coastal section between Elsinore and Copenhagen ("Kystbanen"), as well as the joint services on the Danish and Swedish sides of Oresound.
Joint procurement procedure
The Danish Transport Authority and Skånetrafiken held the responsibility of procuring the contracts through a joint procurement procedure.
The aim of the joint procurement was to improve the mobility in the region, strengthen the ties between the two countries and thus boost the regional integration.
The present situation
Today DSB operates the Danish railway services on the section from Kastrup via Copenhagen Central Station to Elsinore. Statens Järnvägar (SJ) manages the railway services in southern Sweden, with a number of contractors, including Skånetrafiken and others, performing the actual transport operations.
